Dervaig School Playground – Raising Funds

Dervaig School Playground
We are currently working on raising funds to refurbish the school playground.  The old play equipment in the playground was no longer fit for purpose and we removed and disposed of the old castle and ‘submarine’ at the end of 2018.  ScotPlay have drawn up a plan for our new space which you can see below.  We need to raise around £22,000 for the work to be carried out, and our total currently stands at just over £12,000.

We started raising funds this year and have been successful in being awarded £2500 from the Waterfall Fund (local charity) and also raised more than £2000 from the children’s sponsored walk this year.  We have had fantastic amounts of help and donations from local businesses such as Isle of Mull Oysters; Turus Mara; The Bellachroy; Calgary Arts and the wider community.  We’ve had raffles, stalls, village hall events and our summer fair all helping to contribute to our total so far.   You can go to our Events page for details of upcoming fund raising events.

We are really keen to give the children a playground that they can be proud of, which is fun to play and learn in and are aiming to create a vibrant space that can be used to host school and community orientated events and improve our outdoor facilities and seating (including an area which can be used for outdoor learning).  We want it to be safe and durable so that future students and families can benefit from it too.

A new playground will not only improve the opportunity for physical development, but also encourage their social activities and learning outdoors.  A vibrant, interactive, fun space is something we are all keen to encourage and raise funds for.

If you would like to make a donation to our playground fund at any time, please do so by using the form above.   Thank you so much to everyone who has already made a donation, or supported us with recent fundraising events, it is very much appreciated.
